Mothers in all forms

Women in the form of mothers are at her epitome of power. That, is my belief entirely. No wonder "Shakti" is the worship of the supreme power.  The power of womanhood was being manifested in front of me.  The power she uses to mold the life and lives around her for others. She does not need to be a birthing mother, she is a nurturer and a reformer for many and that makes her a mother in the real sense. Want to share a picture of a mother I met on my last visit home. She was from a lower middle class and a mother of girl. A girl, who survived after losing many children at birth, was with her. She was young and healthy, but her eyes carried the burden of those dead souls she carried in her womb at one time.
My ma had taken us to a place called "Boro Kachari", a Shiv Mandir of sorts in the interiors from where we lived. The Shiv Lingum was placed under a huge tree and surrounded with a circular veranda. There were tiny little notes to God, asking for some kind of boom, and a offering in return. I and my boys were enchanted with this, and we did our little note tying to the rails.  My young boys were very eager to visit this place, because my Ma had told them stories about it.  She had narrated to them about the Shiv over there that grants wishes, if you tie a note to the porch of the temple.
On arrival, we bought some of the "puja" materials and washed our hands and and feet at the pond.  A winding pathway led us to the little circular porch surround the Shiv Ling. Could instantly hear the soft rustle of paper.  Tiny bits of paper tied with red string hung from every visible railing there were.  Little notes of wishes, prayers, needs, and wants.  Heart strings of whispered prayers were all rustling in the breeze and sending it heavenwards.
Our puja was short, and then I stood out in the patio, looking and explaining to my older son the meaning of different things depicted over there.  What arrested me to the spot for next half an hour, was a mother who was doing "dondi". She had promised an offering of some number of "dondi" (laying on the floor and moving in circles around the temple area, while making circles with her hand), if her next child was alive. The little girl of hers was about 2 years old. She sat on her mother's back, and her mother rose up, then lay down and swung her arms in a full circle above her head. Then she rose to that point and continued. Her co-sister helped by splashing "ganga jal" around her. The mother was soaking wet, as she had taken a dip in the pond to purify her, just before she began. The mother did not look breathless, neither was she worried who was looking. Her only concentration was to keep the child on her back and do what she had promised to God.
I stood there not sure if this made sense to me. I was questioning the validity of her action. But, she was one woman I could not say was wasting time. She was giving, what she thought she can give for her child. Mothers all around the world have done it, and will do it again in a heartbeat. This I can say for sure. Our own way of making things happen for the people we care about. Happy mothering ladies to each and every one, to all those souls you took care of.

Changing days

Human being are one kind, which goes through the different view points according to their age, that's called maturity.  The more we advance in age our thought process changes and adapts to the new ways of life.  It even adopts some from others, although it might not suit that person.  We are animals of change, and as change is constant, we follow the trend.  The chance not only does happen externally but it also takes place internally.

The total thought process of the being changes, his or her characteristics changes, even to the extent of his or her personality  changes. So now, it can be safely said that, change is a accepted norm of our life.  What happens to those who can not change, or those who change not according to the usual parameters accepted by society?  This is, where I think we all go wrong, or we all assume the parameters set, by who so ever, is correct and irrevocable.  When nothing is constant, how can few guidelines be constant, how could a rule set in some ancient time still be correct today?  I think that would be a bit out dated for us to keep using the old parameters in life today.  Yes, I agree some of them are still usable, and they do apply to today's life, but most are not.  So why not change them also.  We do change them, but many a times such changes bring upheaval from the folks who still use it.

Every individual is made different so whys should there be a set rule for each and every individuals?  That is hypocrisy, as people have different circumstances to deal with when they are performing their transformations.  Lets be kind to our species and look this in a more broader spectrum.  One person may be able to perform his adequate amount of thinking at one time, where as an other of the same age group may be lagging behind.  It is absolutely alright, so why do people give names to such person.  They are tagged and labeled and pointed out at every single opportunity the other people gets.  What kind of maturity is that?  What kind of human trait is that?  I think, we should have a hard look at ourselves first and then decide on the short coming of others.  Most human being think they are demi-gods, they think they have the birth right to judge others.  Who gives them this right?  Being judgmental is the sign of a person with an ability to cover his own faults in others misgivings, a very weak sign of humanity.

Again there are those who science made different, they are wired differently.  What about them?  Society gets into the fast track to give a name for such people..."special needs".  I have heard this phrase been so over used and miss used that it makes me sick to my stomach.  Hey people think what you are saying, every person has a need of some kind or the other, some less and some more.  So why all this halabaloo, yes, those who need a bit of extra help, give it to them.  Don't make a scene out of it.  A good deed does not need such advertisements, just do it and be happy with it.

In every step of society there is a so called group of people who act as if they are doing all these for the best interest of this "special needs group", but in fact they are exploiting their inabilities for their own name and fame.  I have to admit, there are many many individuals and associations which do perform their best for all kind of people with a little less speed, but their numbers are very less.  I appreciate and salute their selfless endeavor.  The schooling does provide a good scope for kids who need a bit different way of education, calling it a IEP(Individual Education Plan).  There are educationists who really work with their heart in their hands.  They not only strive for the child to do his or her best but also make sure he or she has got the best tools to succeed.  Even with all these great things going on, schools do use these groups for their benefit.  Money is a huge thing, that is to say grants are sanctioned for these kind of situations. So I have heard of many institutions misusing this privilege.

Life is not a easy path for most or even all individuals, but the people who progress at a little different pace, have to swim against the current.  Lets not make it harder for them, and lets not judge them.  Love and acceptance can make us all feel the same and promote us to the goal we set up for ourselves.  If we are all the product of the same spices, homo sapiens, then why all this labeling.  Let us accept changes and make ourselves matured in our way of thinking.  No one is the same, and it should not be also.  Life and the world would be a boring place to live in then, color is a vital part of our daily life.  The different kind of people and their different rate of maturity makes us so unique and so brilliant.  A collage of different gem stones, which are at different stages of polishing.  A very spectacular picture just like a kaleidoscope, exploding into different colors and shapes every time the world spins around.

Are we a question......

We are living beings...breathing, feeling and growing in every possible
way.  We are here to give and receive something, to make ourselves
the best we can. But, is it why we are here on this earth?  Do we have
a bigger purpose, are we missing the bigger picture?  These kinds
of questions are quite common in my mind.  I feel as if we have more
unanswered quires in our life than the ones which we have already
solve.  Each and every day after finishing the chores and my duties,
I still feel I have left out something very important.  The funny thing
is that, I don't know what.  It is hovering around in my head, yet I just
can't seem to put my finger on it.  I feel pretty stupid to ask any one.
It is my job yet, I don't know it.  Is it only me?  Are there anyone like
me around? Again more questions.  No answers.

Life, they say starts with a single cell, that is what science says, but

for me live starts when the feeling starts.  It is like a receptor which
captures all the episodes happening around us, and we store it in a
destination called...life. Every episode is then duly labeled and
shelved. After completing so many years of my life, I can recall
many incidents which, my feelings and senses have captured,
but many have been lost in the dark nooks and corners of my life.
I presume they were not clearly marked, or even filed mistakenly.
I can't seem to recollect them, for what ever reason.  Among all
these flashbacks there are many "whys", "wheres", and "whens"
hidden.  In other words a treasure of unanswered questions.

When ever I talk with my friends of my age, we discuss our life

past and life now..and life now, is mostly our next generation.
After most of our discussions  we add, that we have walked for
so long in this path of life but, have we even  got closer to our
goal or, have we got to any particular place?  Back to the
game of questions....life ...just more question...

Letting go of a loved one...

When I was a little girl, I thought, I just need to be 18 years..then no
one can tell me how to live my life. Oh God, how very wrong I was,
there is nothing as living your own life ....we try our best to do it in
our own way, but most of the rules are preset and we just follow the
guideline. We do what the norm is...other wise is dubbed as the
"abnormal". Today I am a mother of two boys, and have number
of niece and nephews, who I am pretty close to. When I talk to
them, I realize, that they do not think very differently from our
times, when we were of their age. That basic feelings of living
a independent life is still predominant in them too.

Now comes the issue of letting go...I for one have been facing
this situation recently.  One of my boys is 15 years old and is a
teenager in the threshold of his manhood, with obvious
different views from me.  I am treading the fine line in which,
if I do not agree with him then am a pain in his butt and if I
do then am very lenient.  As a mom I do not obviously agree
with most of his views and outlooks and again as an individual
I do respect his independence.  I guess there have been several
moms and are thousand of moms in similar situation like mine.
My mother must have had this issue to solve, when she had me
and my sister come up to the age.

Is letting go a good idea...at what age...and do I still have the
right to go and correct him if he is wrong...all these questions
are such a fierce storm in me, that I feel am loosing my sanity
sometimes.  Yes, I do have a younger one to concentrate on,
and he is a bigger challenge,  May be that is my answer, to
 all these questions.

I wonder, do dads go through this sort of feelings as most
of the moms.....or is it just a female thing, as we are the ones
in charge of the off-springs since the time of conception.  I
do know few dads that would not like their daughters to take
up a college far from home.  May be there is a relation with
dads and their daughters and mom and their sons.  Some
moms get the art of letting go easily while others do have to
develop it.  What ever the factors involved, as parent I surely
know that  it is difficult for us to let go of our babies...
irrespective of their size...and age....we are in some way
connected and will be for life.
